Weight Loss 101

You can live without a burger but you can't live without oxygen.

Oxygen is the key to weight loss. Your muscle uses oxygen, your brain uses oxygen. Oxygen is carried with every blood cell that circulates throughout your body. You have about 40 billion fat cells which reside under your skin. Fat cells don't multiply after puberty. But each of them can grow. Hormones determine fat distribution as women store it on their hips, men store it in their bellies. The amount of oxygen you use is the predominant factor to how many calories you need. Typing for example only burns 30 more calories an hour than sleeping. Those of us at a desk are not happy about that tidbit. Use more oxygen in everything that you do and you will burn more calories. Strengthening your muscles will cause them to burn more oxygen. Increasing lung capacity through aerobics will also give you greater oxygen consumption. Take ten deep breaths and check in with how much better you feel. Exercise is the best way to use oxygen which is why it is the vital component to a weight loss program. Many people lose motivation because they don't see the pounds melting off fast. By using and consuming more and more oxygen you increase your caloric need. If you stick to a low calorie, low fat nutrient dense eating program, the increased calories you are using through oxygenating are supplied by your fat cells. You lose a half pound of water for every pound of fat you lose.

What can you do to use oxygen?
  • Dance instead of watching TV when you go home.
  • Take the stairs, its been proven.
  • Walk away your lunch.
  • Climb a tree.
  • Jumping jacks (25) will get your oxygen going.
  • Eat high fiber foods, they are more complex to break down and use more oxygen to digest.
  • Drink water H2O the O is for Oxygen.
  • Kissing for one minute burns thirty calories and uses oxygen in a fun way.
